Tomorrow my mom and I are driving to Springfield, MO to take my grandmother out for Chinese food for lunch. It's an extreme round trip for lunch, but it'll be good to see grandma.
Today was my nephew's birthday. He wanted barbecue which is never my first choice since I don't like smoked stuff or eat anything that had hooves. On the bright side, I had more room for chocolate cake than anyone else.
A couple of times today my parents and I talked politics and it actually wasn't terrible. If we get into it again tomorrow I know my grandma will take my side.
I had my yearly review today and it went better than I thought. It ALWAYS goes better than I think: no boss ever has the same critical ferocity about me as my own thoughts. Got a 4.5% raise and a big unexpected bonus.

Not taking lunch today, will count on a combination of holiday treats and getting sent home early to get through the day.
This morning Walter and Jadzia both went out the dog door when I held it open for them but got back inside under their own steam, so today is a win regardless of what else I accomplish.
