My extended family all live in the Inland Empire, including my cousin Rachel who comes up this time every year to, among other things, see the current Hunger Games movie. I was supposed to pick her up at 1:30 today at Oakland airport.
Only she cancelled. Three of the members of her brother's church were killed (this is the church our grandfather founded) and she's got funerals/memorials to plan.
The fact that this happened in San Bernardino is especially worrying to me becaus that area is poor and a hotbed of evangelism; a massacre committed by a Muslim is only going to confirm so much bias and bigotry that already exists. It's terrible all around.
I am typing on my iPhone which sucks, but holy shit Amyth, sarameg, and Brenda!
lord, Dorothy sounds like mac - watching The Wiz live on TiVo delay.
Oh, sarameg, I'm so sorry for your friend.
Oh man, amyth, hope you are okay.
I have had a DAY today. I actually told three students that I have given up on them and I was out. Then another student who got up and walked out enraged me to the point where I made the whole class write about her (to her and things that were about what her potential is), but still.
I got some good news tonight: my brother and SiL are going to be able to come home for Christmas! I cried a little. Good thing he texted me.
Nice, Teppy. But, but, you need to come visit them here.
Yay for a brotherly Christmas!
Oh Kat, that sounds like an exhausting and emotionally depleting day. May tomorrow bring things into balance.
I forgot about the Wiz. It likely repeats? Have to look into that.
The whole San Bernardino situation and most everything else on the news is just discouraging. The whole thinking well of my fellow man thing is tougher than it should be.
Nice, Teppy. But, but, you need to come visit them here.
Totally! That's on the to-do list, for sure. It's been too long since I've been to Colorado.
I'm sorry for many of you being in bad situations and getting bad news. I'm on my phone, not gonna try to type more specific reactions, but I hold you all in my thoughts.
On my phone because I stopped for dinner at the fancy restaurant by the train station - Thursday is happy hour til close, score! But no wifi.
