I went to TJs this am without a thought to the Superbowl, and it was fine. Easy parking even!
We went to TJs, which shares a parking lot with a David's Bridal. I have never had trouble parking there, not even the day before Thanksgiving. But today was horrible. I thought we'd have to shank someone for a parking spot. When we finally parked and went in, though, there was a normal amount of shoppers. So we decided maybe David's Bridal was having a $99 sale or something.
I love that TJs is famous for parking lot hell ALL OVER THE COUNTRY! How did they not fix that before going national?
I suspect designing inadequate parking lots is part of TJ corporate strategy to save money on real estate. Same with Arco, opposite with In n Out.
Eta: even the one in the valley is bad.
Our new TJ's has a huge parking lot! Shared with Pier One.
Heh - TJ's in NYC solves that problem by simply not having parking lots.
Fun!
And I've already used the Merlin app to ID what I now think was a Kite. Nice!
ETA: the TJ's near me are in strip malls with shared parking, and the parking situation is fine. Whole Foods, OTOH, awful. And at least one WF parking lot I know was forced to be awful by the city it is in restricting what they could do with exits and entries in totally nonsensical ways
The parking lot at the TJ's here is always fine. But it's the least crowded TJ's I've ever been in. I'm not sure that they really got their target market when they opened here.

I've read something somewhere (how conclusive is that?) that basically this is the case.
Our TJs in our neighborhood is spacious with a decent-sized lot and still they had to institute a one-way rule with cones for the lot. I often park on the street and walk.
We were at UCLA med center yesterday and I SWEAR the lot there is awful. Plus there is the final indignity that you have to pay a small fortune to park. Fills me with bitterness.
