That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

msbelle, I'm sorry you're having such a tough time.

flea, good luck with the interview!

As I "learned" at work just the other day, working with foundations is more like dating with an eye on marriage, while corporate sponsors are more like one-night stands.

I love this metaphor. Or maybe I just want to have a one-night stand with it.

I had a super long lunch today with a new friend and it was awesome. We talked for like two and a half hours. Yay new friends!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You people may have noticed that I am super conservative when it comes to dressing for an interview.

Hey Hec, JZ, you should send that picture of Lil Ozma to NPR! [link]

If flea makes her metaphor about how grant writing is like a one night stand, I bet they would sit up and listen.

OMG, that would be hilarious. But probably inappropriate.

The blue nail polish thing is cracking me up, because a while back on Corporette there was a whole thing about someone who came to an interview with one blue nail, and should that be held against her, with people arguing various sides (maybe she forgot, why is it important, vs who does that, it's an interview fer cryin' out loud). I do lean for super conservative for interviews, though. At least for corporate type positions.

young tattooed hipster librarians

Which reminds me of the first time I met Nutty in person, she was dressed kind of grunge/punk, not exactly what I was expecting for a children's librarian (which is what she was at the time).

Me, if I keep buying ridiculous shoes, I'll be woefully out of place for my job, where ties are a rarity for the men and basically every day is casual Friday.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Huh. So this time Annalee is asking first. What an *exciting* Supernatural episode to recap for IO9...

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

There's going to be cake tomorrow for someone's birthday, I got a Google calendar invitation for it. I wanted to report that I am making a point to accept the invitation so that the organizer will know who is coming since I've read so many complaints about people not responding to meeting invitations from y'all. Also because cake, of course.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Good news: after googling "how to deal with a control-freak boss" last night and forcing myself not to obsess over it, this morning started off on a great note (we got a *huge* grant from the Historic Trust for a Master Plan) and nothing came of anything from yesterday. I'm taking my win and slinking away. The great thing about the grant is that is was one that she wrote, so I got to stroke her ego and call her awesome and a rockstar and she preened happily, and well-deservedly.

Talking with another coworker today, the running theory is that she barely got to see her husband over the weekend, and he lives in another state, so weekends are all they have. I feel bad, I just wish she didn't react this way.
