Hey, I've been in a firefight before! Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity. I can handle myself.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

No direct comment on this case, but I'm going to put in a plug for the Australian novel "The Slap": [link]. From the cover blurb: "At a suburban barbecue, a man slaps a child who is not his own."

That happened in one of the early episodes of Mad Men. They were having a party, and one of the guests slapped one of the Draper kids (I think because he was running in the house and crashed into someone, or something) and everyone treats it as if that's perfectly acceptable.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I feel like I've been seeing a lot of pink in general this season, just like in Penneys and Forever 21, women's dept's wherever. I don't know of a specific place to look.

Those shoes are purty, Consuela, good for you for getting them.

Because books.

The thing about the baby-slapping is hard, because honestly my reaction would have been to just slap him back, in a "Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you, don't touch my kid" way. Which is probably all the retaliation I would have needed to -- a year in jail and losing his job is a little out of proportion to the actual incident.

The racist stuff is just gross, though.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I can much more easily forgive slapping the baby than the racial slur.

Wait, seriously? Physical assault is more foregiveable than verbal?

A woman at the Y once smacked Dylan's hand because (in her opinion) he was pushing the elevator button too many times. I smacked her hand back and shouted at her and she ran away. Unfortunately she was wearing a big hat and dark glasses, so I couldn't give the membership office a decent description to have her kicked out.

David Bowie fans might get a kick out of these photos from the new Bowie exhibit at the V&A Museum in London.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yeah, I think I need to go to London to see that.

Good for you. Hitting my kid and/or hateful words directed toward my child is going to bring out the mama-bear for sure. I likely wouldn't get police involved, but the perpetrator surely would prefer that to mama's rage.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I feel like I've been seeing a lot of pink in general this season

I've started searching sites by colour, and I think the proper pink this season is more coral than pastel, and the most I'm willing to compromise is dusty rose. Coral's not good on me. Still, I'm finding my Mission Pink enjoyable, and extra points when a) discounted b) gingham.

That's possible, I might have to take a second look to distinguish coral from a pink I would rather have.

I may go see if Forever 21 has that pink striped blazer in my size this afternoon, since I am reminded of it and need to get more pants/jeans that fit anyway and I understand the mall is a where these things tend to be kept(and will be off work at 3). I'm thinking Old Navy for jeans that will probably be the wrong size in a few more months anyway...

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I have a second interview at 11:30 this morning. Wish me hireability.
