I went to a free event at the downtown Kimpton (the Hotel Monaco where we had the F2F!) because I am a member (but not like, a high ranking one!) of their loyalty club--they invited me and a guest (my roommate) to come to a "women's event", where they gave us delicious drinks (pomagranate and pineapple mimosas?) and then dinner (three courses, and matching wines!)--and prizes! Sadly, I did not win any prizes. But dinner was delicious. And I (of course) gravitated to the lesbian couple in the room--who turned out to have gone to Mount Holyoke, and we knew tons of people in common. Very amusing. Good times! And clearly I am an extrovert, as I was meeting lots of people and making friends. :)

She thinks it wasn't aimed at her, but (probably) someone shooting at someone else, and her car got in the way. God knows there's plenty of silver RAV4s out there. But terrifying!

And last week her house was burgled: not a good week for her.

I'm glad she's ok.

I hate online only meetings. The quality of the VOIP is such that the sound quality is crap, less communicating actually gets done and half the time, you can't tell whose there and someone always forgets to mute themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is great to be able to include people who are not on-site. It's helpful that way. But it simply does not replace the actual physical face to face. And how the fuck am I supposed to participate as people waltz through my office to work with my officemate?
