'Yeah, no surprise I developed a dentist avoidance issue. Thankfully over that now.
Heh. I didn't go to the dentist for years, out of sheer laziness/forgetfulness. Since nothing was actively wrong, I never remembered to make an appointment for a cleaning. Or I would think of it, not write it down, and forget again.
Until all sorts of badness started happening. (And then I chose the absolute wrong dental practice, which is what led to me needing a titanium screw in my jaw at the end of the month.)
And now? I have totally developed, if not avoidance, definite dental anxiety before every fucking visit, even for a cleaning. I'm sure every visit is going to be the one where I find out I need all my teeth pulled.
That's really not hyperbole, despite my penchant for it. I'm dead serious on this.
But since I don't WANT all my teeth pulled, the only way to prevent that is do actually go to the dentist. Awesome. So I'm not going to avoid it, but...it well and truly sucks now.
(And for 40 years, I didn't understand why people had dental fear/anxiety, why it could ever be an issue. So THAT came back to bite me in the ass, hard.)
I remember the feeling of having loose teeth, and having them fall out, but not the age I was or whatever else was happening in my life (what friends I had, what grade I was in, etc).
I definitely remember that I had a few teeth that fell out in first grade, because my teacher that year had these little plastic treasure boxes that you could put a tooth into if it fell out during the school day, and I was disappointed several times when my teeth came out on afternoons or weekends.
Isaac lost a front tooth last week (his 4th I think) and Franny has loose one right now. Nothing for months and now suddenly the tooth fairy is back in business.
Sara finally asked for the truth about the tooth fairy, which was a relief. And she lost a tooth today, coincidentally.
mac is a month away from 12 and he lost a pre-molar today.
Emmett lost one of his teeth in the middle of a Little League game.
He was pitching and called time out. I ran out to the mound to see what was up, and he pulled the tooth out of his mouth, spat blood and went back to pitching.
VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT:
Aaaah! OMdearandlovingG, we have Guinness ice cream, courtesy of this glorious place, and it is so gloriously swooningly good. Just one spoonful practically broke me. I may never eat any other ice cream, or in fact any other anything, ever again.
They also have, just through tomorrow, an ice cream float called the Dublin Honey made with the stout ice cream, Valhrona chocolate sauce, and 10-year-old tawny port.
I love The Ice Cream Bar with little sparkly hearts.
You all amaze me. I cannot remember losing my baby teeth, much less remember when it happened. How do you remember that?
Kind of hard for me to forget my first - I got hit in the jaw with a piece of rebar in prekindergarten and swallowed the tooth that it knocked out.
