I think it's less that people are crazier and more that people aren't as cowed by authority anymore. It's not the dark ages, where you believed what the church told you, etc.
So ... it's that crazy people are freer to speak up.

ION, my sister's dog-sitter called me because she couldn't reach my sister: she arrived at the house to discover they'd been burgled. A year ago this wouldn't have happened, because a year ago they had a St. Bernard (if a geriatric one) loose in the house.
... I suspect she'll be campaigning for another dog now. Me, I'm glad I have a GSD, even if she's a weenie: you can tell that from the outside.
