And the UCLA nurse liaison woman swears it will all be done and dusted. This would be impossible if not for her, and we've never even met. But she's been monitoring my case more than weekly since before the home orders got written, and it's nice knowing she's practically pragmatically on my side.
Unrelatedly: IO9 has balls-upped their community building. They've officially said that posting to the top level their natter-esque section is restricted to their beta testers, even after they go live. Us beta testers were picked because we're "prolific odeck [name of their natter section] posters" "who post often and add to the conversation" as they "curate for the perfect blend of quality and participation".
No, not gonna engender any resentment, even as you say you're watching to see who else you can add. No chance of that.
A couple of topic starters have relinquished their spots, with the intent that they're taken by someone more worthy, and there have also been a number of proposed and actual departures (fairly few flounces, considering) and they haven't even got to the bit where everyone hates the new software yet (it's actually got some nifty ideas, but also some really stupid ones--at least they managed some nifty this time, which I think was missing with their last two rollouts). Buggy as fuck.
IO9 already "employs" unpaid mods, and now they're trying to turn 20 of us into unpaid content generators with outright auditions (every user ID gets a blog, and you're encouraged to post there if you want to join the big kids table). I used to feel sorry for Charlie Jane and Annalee, but I can't any more.
