I covered air shows for several years in my youth, and the air show director's idea of fun was to put the girl reporter into the scariest possible aircraft. I once rode in, or perhaps on, an experimental aircraft called the Breezy, which looked a good deal like a flying tandem bike. I was mainly afraid my glasses were going to fall off. I did get to ride in a balloon once, though. That was wonderful.

I rode in a Piper Cub as part of an article on aerial surveying, and it was the only airplane ride that made me seriously queasy.

I was just thinking we should be able to designate some threads...illustratable. I don't know bout segmenting it--just think of two threads--one "normal" and one "NSFW" (but nothing illegal in the country the server is hosted).

O EM GEEE) anyway--you make an announcement like that, we get a fifteen minute squee, images work, and hen down comes the boom and no more pics. But the festive imagery joy (remotely hosted--I haven't thought much on uploading pictures here yet--assigning random names, confusing yikes--phase 1 is other people's pictures. Phase 2 is hosting here.

Uh, in other overthinking news, what makes the Harlem Shake so funny? Well, first off--what does it have to do with Harlem? Are they appropriating a dance or a name or a music or what? WOuld anyone from Harlem be seen dead twerking? What is twerking, and why so much of it?

I'm assuming it has much to do with the poker face of the first 15-16 seconds, and then some degree of familiarity with the people or the location or the customs or something, to make the second half work, plus the never ending escalation of silliness. The very first one I saw, at what would have been a cut to everyone dancing, a (Jamaican) guy comes out and beats up the lone dancer and breaks shit up and then goes back to bed. So it took me a bit to adjust to a lack of violence (ain't that always the way?) but since it was a cavalcade of Jamaicans, I popped a homer in my pants. Since then they've been judiciously chosen, but it seems that if one can amuse you--sit tight. It'll get made in a sec. Check tumblr periodically (but not at the start of the thrashing response to the last new perfect one, natch).

And now I need to look up twerking. I wonder if I can draw that.

The balloon landing wasn't bad. It dropped the last 10-15 feet pretty abruptly into a field. With cows. We were fairly close to a dirt road and the chase car got there in short order.

My one ride in a 12-seater had us touching down in Peoria simultaneously with the tornadoes our pilot had been trying to avoid on the way in. Bobbing up and down like a cork with a drunk stanger passed out on your shoulder does not enhance the flying experience.

I don't feel any special need for pictures here. But I suppose I haven't tried it and might get to liking it.
