What were they twisting instead of nipples? Personally I prefer my author to tweak or lave, you know? OMG, the laving of the pebbled nub. Good times, good times.

Yes. Zippers weren't commercially available until the 1920s.

Well, I got to the pool AND to Target to replace the heater and pick up a few other things I forgot. And washed the futon sheets and put it back together. So today isn't a complete wash.
