Related to that, with all the hubbub over the requirement to cover birth control in health plans, I learned yesterday that it is actually the law already in like 28 states. So all the sky is falling outrage from the church - they're already doing it all over the place.

Something like 97% of American Catholic women use birth control. That horse doesn't even remember where the barn was.
I think it is kind of weird that there are no references/worries about Santorum's Catholicism and Romney's Mormonism. I don't know whether we have come so far that it is a non-issue, or that some Republicans are so worried by a black man as president that other prejudices have gone out the window.
Sophia,
Romney's Mormonism is a bigger deal than the GOP establishment would like to admit. In the summer/fall there were reports that, particularly in southern states, the evangelicals did not trust Romney at all due to his faith.
I'm not sure where Santorum comes in because he's been a non-entity long enough that this question hasn't been raised.
So all the sky is falling outrage from the church - they're already doing it all over the place.
The Archidiocese of Cincinnati is being a giant dick about it, and has said that if they're forced to provide health insurance that covers birth control, then they just won't provide health insurance at all, to any of their employees.
Republicans are so worried by a black man as president that other prejudices have gone out the window.
I know the Morman thing was a big deal early on, but I haven't heard much about it in recent months. (admittedly, my exposure is limited to Facebook, here, and The Week) I think that good old fashioned racism will unite Republicans (or any traditional white power base) forever and ever.
Post racial society MY ASS. (I literally cannot type the phrase "post racial society" without rolling my eyes.)
So, today's the day I get to deal with my little HR issue that erupted on Friday. I have a meeting with my employee and our HR rep at 1. She will be offered the choice to continue to work for us on a freelance basis from home, or...there is no or. She can do that, she can resign, or she can force the issue and be let go for performance. Ugh.
On a better note, my primary stakeholder was chosen as MVP for the year for our Americas business at a dinner last night of the top players in the organization - and my boss just called me to let me know that he name checked me in his speech!
It is probably my prejudice showing, but I would much rather have a secret muslim president than a mormon one. They know how to keep secrets and have a secret agenda.
brenda,
man what a day you will have. peace and strength!
Today I have the mystery lunch with HR. My current guess is that it's a sharing and bonding thing, but it's the head of HR and three other people. This is not sustainable across the entire company. I don't know how my name got into the hat, if everyone is going to have to do this, what.
I also would really have preferred to work from home today, but I ain't fucking with that shit.
