Possibility is virtually nil. You're more likely to get fucked wrt to forex fees. If you have any Capital One card, or certain Amex, Chase or Citi cards, there's no foreign transaction fees. Some CU's also don't charge.
My neighbor's slate (not sure which bank) card won't work outside of the US, Her scan strip is along the short side of the card, but she's had other issues of cards not reading from the magstrip, but then again, she's CRS, in the world's hellholes.
The last few times I've been in Italy and France, I've taken money out of my NIHFCU account at an ATM with my debit card. No issues and a better exchange rate. VISA does seem to be more popular than MasterCard or Amex.

Good to know. The primary card I use is a generic Citibank. I used it when in Prague, but need to check if there are fees now.

Slate is Chase, and not affiliated with MC or VISA. She's bound to have problems.
Never have I had an issue with VISA. I've never used a MC overseas.
