What are the other candidates like? Or are they a complete unknown?
I like the other candidates, but they are all second semester seniors, so I would only have them for about 3 months and then I would have to go through this again.
Also, I got really good use out of the 'perfect or late' question-- although they answered it as students. But the one candidate who answered "It must be perfect-- I just always ask the professor for an extension" got herself eliminated.
Sorry about your cat, Perkins.
Black rice vermicelli seemed really neat in theory, but in practice it turned out an awful combination of slimy and too chewy. Add in that after boiling its translucent purple appearance becomes very reminiscent of earthworms, and it's a big plate of Do Not Want with pesto sauce and tiger shrimp on top.
I'm so sorry, Perkins.
Vortex, answering a question from days ago... I am not in the show (I am so not an actor), I'm lighting it.
I'm very sorry to hear about Perkins the cat, Perkins.

I was going to answer that for you, but then it seemed weird! I don't KNOW you are not an actor, I just assumed you were not because you are a lighting designer.
After watching a video someone linked to of Benedict Cumberbatch it occurred to me - I bet Sherlock Holmes NEVER gets his security deposit back.
So I just met with one of my student candidates, who I had previously only interviewed on the phone, and I think I like her. Again, the big drawback is that she is a 2nd semester senior and therefore I will need to be hiring again in May.
Why are decisions so hard????
I'm so sorry, Perkins.
ita !, I'm reading
Discount Armageddon,
Seanan McGuire's next book, and the main character's description of Krav maga amuses me:
Krav maga is an Israeli-developed fighting style centered on the idea that when I put you down, you stay down. It's fast, it's brutal, and I love it. Sort of like club dancing but with more eye gouging and less grinding.
Love watching Cumbersnatch dancing to Thriller.

Awesome. There have been times when I certainly wanted/need to use self-defense in a club. Once I did - a completely vicious and skilled elbow to the solar plexus of a dude grinding up on me from behind who reached around and tweaked my nipple. My outrage and anger was tempered with pleasure that my instincts had kicked in well despite limited martial arts training.
Perkins, I'm so sorry. Much peace and strength to you.
msbelle, I'm currently paying $83 every two weeks for health insurance just for me. If I was to include DH, it would jump to $275 every two weeks. It's a high deductible plan with an HSA. I have to cover the first $1200 before 100% coverage kicks in, though well visits (physicals and gyno) are covered.
aurelia, we'll take the discussion of dinner on the 23rd to email. As of now, I'm still in.
