Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Our baby teeth got thrown out somewhere. Once my parents said "Fine, there is no tooth fairy, you keep it" I hoarded them myself in a little wooden treasure chest.

And then we moved five million times, and no more teethsies. Sad.

Because books.

Mom had little locks of hair of ours, too.

I was tempted to keep that stuff with my kids, but then I realized if I wasn't going to display it or use it (like in jewelry), why bother. I kept some of their baby clothes instead, one or two outfits from each that were well loved and used, and really remind me of them at that age.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

We found a bunch of mine, mostly rattling around at the bottom of my mom's jewelry boxes. I did not have any urge to hang on to them.

I should ask Dad if he's run across them. I didn't go through all the jewelry boxes. We did find my childhood immunization book, though.

brillig

I found a long braid of my hair when we went through my mother's stuff. I was kind of touched that she'd kept that for 43 years, but old, dry hair is also kind of creepy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

More proof that my dentist is awesome: He just left me a comment in FB that if I need a hole drilled in the tooth that was extracted so I can turn it into a charm, he'll do that for me.

That's so sweet.

I...might have a lock (a loc, actually) of my ex's hair somewhere. I hope I threw it away at some point, but I might not have. I took it by accident, if that helps?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I have a lock of my first girlfriend's hair, which is a memento mori now. Death is strange. Or it lends its strangeness to the world, making simple things fill up with mortality and loss.

It's a weird old world.

Oh, but also, I would like to pat myself on the back. I was thinking that I didn't have anything to eat here, and the call of Domino's was STRONG. But I got home and discovered corn chowder in the fridge, so I'm making corn muffins (it's a theme?) and bob's your uncle.

Truer words.

Pete used to have shoulder-length hair. When he decided to shave it off, I saved it.

With all of that in mind, I really shouldn't feel uncomfortable about talking to Dad about wanting some of Mom's ashes, should I? And yet, I do. I don't know how to have that conversation with him.

(When I do finally bring myself to have that conversation, I'm planning on getting this reliquary locket to keep the ashes in.)
