What are you looking for to get out of the movie? I've not seen a good review of The Darkest Hour yet (well, IO9 called it the best worst of 2011). Bonding through snark? Perfectly viable dating angle.
He likes suspense, so we're aiming for something with some thrills but no sparkly vampires in it.
I actually saw The Darkest Hour on Christmas day, but it's enjoyable enough I don't mind seeing it again with company.
Pleistocene (heh, autocorrect) said that Tinker Tailor thing was fantastic.
A local bar has an annual polar bear swim on New Year's Day. Best jumpers. Ever.
