I'll just jump in my time machine, go back to the twelfth century, and ask the vampires to postpone their ancient prophesy for a few days while you take in dinner and a show.

Okay, finished editing the medical chapter (and now I know more than I ever wanted to about stingray injuries), off to the drug store & grocery store.

... for a sick day, I'm doing too much; would rather spend it napping.

Be glad you're getting a storm, we're looking at another week of the Dreaded Inversion, where it's warmer in the mountains than it is here in the valley because of the cold, smoggy air trapped down here. Yay, grey haze.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Next time, use a strand of uncooked spaghetti to light it.

Wait, does this work for real?? I must try this. We had all kinds of shenanigans trying to light the candle inside our jack-o-lantern this year.

When M told me this morning that Kim Jong-il had died, my first thought (as it always is when I hear about the death of world leaders/statesmen) was "Thank god it wasn't Nelson Mandela." I'm gonna have a hard time when that day comes.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

This may be wrong, but I have to share it. (Sorry.) In my job I am in close contact with a certain public affairs/news show. We have monthly meetings that include what will be on in the coming weeks/months. For like six months this year, those meetings included someone saying that the Nelson Mandela profile show was ready to be re-run if he should die. It became a running joke. Which, not something to joke about!

Now tagless for your comfort.

I look like I've been in a fist fight.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I've never encountered any news organization that didn't have a Celebrity Deathwatch list. My department puts together "just in case" clip reels every couple of months.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

That was one of my assignments in a newswriting class many years ago.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

As a contrast - when Reggie White was big back in the 90s, if you went to games you saw an interesting thing. At the end of the game, he and other religious Christian players would kneel in a large prayer circle on the field. Usually was about 30 guys.

Isn't there some Promise Keepers-esque fringe sect that's very big on recruiting NFL players sort of the way Scientology tries to collect Hollywood celebrities?

Oh, of course -- and I'm sure they have other things available for rerunning in case of Major Leader Death, but Mandela is the only one who ever came up.

Always Anti-fascist!

probably. Probably operating on the Clay Davis "I'll take anybody's money if he's just giving it away!" principle.
