Well, you'd better not be thinking what I think you're thinking, because my answer is the same as always — no threesomes unless it's boy-boy-girl. Or Charlize Theron.

Horrible's kind of the point.

Whose point?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have spent way too long today defending porn. I don't know why I even bother sometimes. It's not like I like all porn, or anything. I just think it's stupid to say that if it looks like porn but doesn't degrade women it's erotica. That's so...

Step away. Just, step away.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Romney's. The party's. It's a dog- whistle. "We"re not saying only white people are real Americans, but we all know what we mean."

Did they look it up and say "ooh, kkk, let's use that"? Probably not. But the slogan appeals to them for much the same reasons.

Because books.

But the slogan appeals to them for much the same reasons.

Exactly. It's just gross.

JenP - Dec 13, 2011 3:15:09 pm PST #11365 of 30001

I guess my point was it shouldn't even take a google to think, "Yeah, that's a crappy thing to hitch your wagon to," even without knowing the history of it. For some reason I thought you didn't think I got that, which concerned me.

What's horrifying is that Romney's campaign runners presumably think that has a wide appeal and will be beneficial to their cause. What's more horrifying is that maybe it does for more people than I'd like to think. Well, definitely that, because I'd like to think it would appeal to no one but rather repulse them.

ETA: I think I'm having an issue because it doesn't seem at all subtle or nudge-nudge, wink-wink to me -- it seems very direct in its anti-everyone who isn't like "us"-ism. So, I'm shocked at that level of directness about something so awful (to me, clearly not their target audience). Or that political advisors, no matter what they actually think, would think using that slogan was a good idea. As in, what percentage of this country agrees? Are they right? Because if so, I'm... lots of negative adjectives.

Amy - Dec 13, 2011 3:23:06 pm PST #11366 of 30001
Because books.

I know what you mean, Jen. On first read, you think, Wow, that's insane, no one would use that! And then you realize they likely know that there are people out there who are going to wholeheartedly cheer for it.

I wish politics didn't make me ill. I can't listen to any of it anymore.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Jen,

I'm right there with you. But I must admit I am 100% mystified by everything Romney does. EVERYTHING. It's like he didn't learn from when he ran in 2008 - or any of the other times for other offices.

He clearly wants to be President so badly he will do anything and say anything. What does he believe?

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Just got back from dinner with Gary's mom for a belated birthday celebration. Yum!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

OMG, Gwyneth Paltrow has released a concierge-like app for iOS. It looks entirely laughable.

And I'm saying that knowing I just spent ten minutes training Alfred on my tablet with restaurants and bars I like (it's a Pandora for food and drink venues), and it's not only pretty decent with suggestions so far, it's within my price range.

So there, Gwynnie. So there.

Umm... Did he not take 11th grade us history? That is nuts!

I am in a waiting room while Grace is at OT. better to be at OT than in the room "playing".
