this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I feel like Obama is hurting himself a little with people on the left by being so willing to compromise.

More than a little, I think. I'm really not happy with his constant willingness to let the Republicans be shitbags who are damaging this country severely.

Given the 2 candidates in '08, I am not sorry I voted for him. However, I did not vote for him in the primary, and I'm still bitterly disappointed that he was the Democratic candidate.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

(1) They're only hurting themselves.

Oh, if only.

On the politics though, I agree on this and your comment on Obama. I've never seen such a bloodbath of self-inflicted wounds, on both sides. If we weren't all collateral damage, it'd be kind of entertaining.

Seconding all the outrage on Kat's and Hec's behalf. Is 2011 the year of the Tino or something?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Lots of Americans just don't realize what's going on with the debt ceiling, so this will hurt Obama too.

I mean, a few days ago CNN had a headline about how neither side was compromising.

Um... the Obama has been bending over backwards to compromise... I think he even did a backflip so he could bend over backwards some more. His position was to the right of most Republicans.

I'm not either. I understand it's tough to negotiate with people who apparently don't give a shit, but it sure seems like he should fight a little harder for all that stuff he talked about when campaigning.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Obama may, but it's the congressional democrats who actually have to agree.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

It was Obama who put Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid on the table. Going further back, it was Obama who from the beginning decided not to "look back" who never blamed Republicans for anything. Obama claims to admire Ronald Reagan, but when Reagan first took office blamed Carter from day one, claimed he was cleaning up Carter's mess.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

eh, Clinton wouldn't have been any more willing to defend progressive causes. Notice how the Democratically controlled congress gave Bush ALL his tax cuts, while Obama couldn't get a Democratically controlled congress to pass public health insurance? That's not because Obama is a less effective politician that Bush, it's because both sides are beholden to the same interests.

But I'm angry and cynical. I think they won't stop destroying social security and medicare until average citizens are marching in the streets, forming general strikes, etc. Unless they suspect revolt, they see no reason to vote for citizens over corporations. It just doesn't pay well enough.

I should say I'm talking about the Repubs in congress unwilling to compromise, not Republicans in general. I'm sure plenty of them do give a shit.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Sometimes I want to grab Obama by the lapels and say, "Why won't you listen to Paul Krugman?"

It's a piss poor way of making rational decisions about the future of government. It's like someone putting a gun to my head and saying, "Cut your spending in half or I'll shoot." I'm sure I'd have plenty of thoughtful solutions.
