Also, to date we've raised over a grand for my friends and their housemate who were robbed. I'd hoped for a little more, but this is good, and more cash may come in before the deadline tomorrow. Unfortunately, I won't be there, but that's ok.That we did it and got support from a wide range of folks, some of whom don't know the collectors, is awesome. And some people really amazed me with their generosity. I mean, SRSLY?!

You know what? Parents and aunts and uncles getting older is hard. The uncle currently visiting me rode a motorcycle out from Colorado, but watching him move around my house and stairs, I am scrambling to move obstacles and lumpy surfaces out of the way. Seeing him get off the futon alarms me. I insisted on carrying his saddlepacks up the stairs, it was freaking me out too much to see him stepping gingerly. And yet this man, in his 70s, will clock around 4K miles on a motorcycle this summer. So maybe I should just chill. Or take his advice."Got an old man who lives a couple houses down. He's insulted whenever anyone offers help. That's silly. Me? That's someone else doing the work, I'll take it." ( do that in a Spock voice. Because he has the same Spockish diction. He's a nuclear scientist.)

How do I know when Hubby really feels like shit? He lets me help him. It's kind of a universal red alert to all our friends when he asks for/accepts help. Otherwise I have to look away from his struggling or even walk a few steps away just to keep myself from trying to interfere.

Pride has kept him alive this long, but damn it's hard being married to it.

Yeah, I'm glad Frank is clearly not insulted by me offering to haul his bags up the stairs. It just scares me he'd try given how unsteady he was at the time (in his defense- and a critique- he was dehydrated from the ride. I traveled three weeks with dad this Spring and some of it was so stressful because I was trying to figure out ahead what was going to trip him up. He's not Bella Swan clumsy but he's always ... let's just say I got my gracefulness from him and leave it at that. We both carry band-aids.
