I just said that you're pretty. Even when you're covered in...engine grease, you're... No, especially, especially when you're covered in engine grease.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

What side/part of the process is "pre-award grant administration"? I ask because I could slot it on either end, and am curious. Is it about proposal development or grantmaking or what?

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Proposal development and doing the admin side of shepherding it from first draft to submission to our internal research offices, which then submit it to whatever actual agency is doling out the money.

Oh, nice. All the worst parts! IMO. But super-useful and important.

If they have a grant writing course, I would look into that. Your editing and writing skills coupled with formal training will make you a real asset. Additionally, you may be able to moonlight as a consultant for other entities.

I am a little sad that I know what pre-award grant administration is. Non-profit/arts grants are so different from research grants.

I also LOVE those houses. If I could stand the heat, I would totally live in New Orleans, because I love the tiny, bright houses. Most of the houses in Rochester are HUGENORMOUS.

I do think "pre award" is hilarious, if you're talking about competitive grants.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

I love the tiny, bright houses.

Me too! I'm kind of bummed that my house right now is boring gray and white. My favorite, in the Marigny, is brick red and dark teal with goldenrod and cream accents. SO PRETTY.

Now difficult would it be for a clueless, inexperienced person to jump into applying for non-profit grants? ARP, the search and rescue group CJ is involved with needs help and at this point I'm afraid to volunteer.

Foundation grants? Not that hard, honestly. You can buy a book or take a one-day class and really get going, as long as you're able to read directions and write a coherent paragraph. Government grants are a whole nother kettle of fish. Or whatever.

You can start with the Foundation Center -- they have a great website and a ton of info.
