OK, fuck it -- the person I was trying to set up a quick conversation with this morning hasn't responded at all to my 5pm email. I'm closing my work email and going out to enjoy my day off!
Get some gelato today, Jesse.
Be careful Norwegians!
Matilda woke up this morning, looked at me and held up three fingers, "Alice in Wonderland 3. I just dreamed it. She went into a castle, and there was a room, and there was a man in the room. And he had a fox face. It was very furry. And he could shoot bullets but he wasn't going to shoot little kids."
Then she made a little gesture somewhere about six inches over her head and explained, "He had a point on his head and the bullets come out there."
"Then what happened?"
"She was dancing in a ballroom. There were a lot of people. The man with the fox face was going to shoot people wearing metal." (Armor, I think.)
Matilda has the best dreams.
Right now the heat index outside is 109, and it's scheduled to go up to 117. I really hope our AC (window units in both bedrooms) can cope with being on all day while Aeryn is home with the nanny. (I feel bad that she basically has to stay in one room the whole day in order to not melt, but maybe she'll decide to take Aeryn to the library or something. She can strap an ice pack to the back of the stroller for the ride over.)
I've managed to hold out with just a fan and an icepack, but I'm going to have to make a strategic move to the AC soon....
The biggest thing I found effective with cooling off a couple years ago when the LA summer was ridiculous was eating frozen food. I started skipping the blending stage of smoothing and eating the chunks of frozen fruit. And then I started chopping and freezing fruit myself. It was very refreshing.
The heat index here is up to 111. I have put down all my storm windows, on the assumption that the sun hitting the interior windows directly would increase the room heat. The shades are down and all the doors are closed.
My cpu is directly under the thermostat. It's the old, slider kind, which is surely as inexact as they come, but I've got it set around 80 and we are really doing okay.
I wonder if I should turn the computer off for a while.
