The discussion of clothes gives me an excuse to bring up "roaring girls" something I don't we've discussed here, but seems to me a very Buffista topic. Pdf: [link] . The plays apparently were based on a real phenomena, women who dressed in mens clothes and drank and brawled. According to the link "roaring" was a gendered term, applied to men, so a roaring girl was very definitely cross dressing and assuming a role usually reserved for rowdy young men, for "roaring boys".

Yeah it was interesting. Where I heard about the roaring girls, but I actually found the roaring girls more interesting than the article about underwear.
