Cool, I have inherited myself a Kindle. My dad bought my mother a Kindle, and she didn't really use it (she's uncomfortable with all machines anyway, and the dementia makes it hard for her to learn anything), and a few months ago it stopped working. Couldn't figure out what was wrong.
So instead of trying to fix it, he bought her a new Kindle. Even though she didn't use the one she already had. And I took the old one away, I was going to recycle it, but I saw that you could replace the battery on a 1st-generation Kindle for $20.
So I did, and it's working! I have re-registered it to my Amazone account, booyah. Now I have to figure out how to download fic onto it...

AO3 automatically formats stuff as ebooks. There's a download link on each story.
For stuff that's not, you're gonna want Calibre.
Yeah, but I have to do something to get it to the Kindle...
Um. Plug the kindle into the computer? Or do you not have that cord? Can't you e-mail documents to the Kindle, maybe?
Ozone is off the charts out there tonight. Smells like several hundred batteries shorted or someone fried the motors on 50 blenders. Explains my headache all day.
It's not going to break soon.
I feel the same about the weather here, sara. Hot and muggy. Sadly it was Noah's first day of soccer camp. Poor noodle was limp and tired.
Argh. I have to finish this proposal tonight. I'm going to get off line and do it right after a few minutes (henh!)
AP scores are in. 5 of my 28 students passed. Which is ~18, which is also a 10% decrease from last year. SO that looks grim. But I was able to get 4 kids to pass AP Lit that had not passed AP Language in the previous year. So I'll take that as a minor win.
check out this Phoenix area dust storm.

Wow, that's super crazy, le nubian! Is erika being swallowed up by that?
I'm using Calibre right now! Guess how great it is?
Love it, really.
