There's also this.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's not just me, Tom, it's me and my (bitchy) sister. I wouldn't want to impose all that.

The wedding is at some mansion down there. When I priceline hotels in that neighbourhood they're pretty pricey, but I haven't stayed in a hotel in NY on my own dime in forever, so I don't remember how much it costs. How far away is reasonable, and what price range should I set my expectations on?

The hostel looks interesting, but I'm not sure I could talk my sister into sharing a bathroom. The shared bedroom would work perfectly.

Congrats, Kathy!

Hmm. But not right for my tastes. I'll probably go with some sort of script/handwriting font. Suzi, I am ignoring your suggestion. I'm not even telling Pete about it, so you won't have to deal with a font lecture from him.

I think I will re-read From Dust Returned today or tonight, because I have this feeling that the quote I want is in there. I thought it was in Something Wicked This Way Comes, but when I re-read it in October, nothing jumped out at me.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I will NEVER get a tattoo on my neck like my dad. Sorry, Dad.

I kind of want a tattoo on the back of my neck, but I haven't decided what I would get. So that's somewhere lower on the List Of Tattoos.

There was this dude in the Freak-Ass Church who was tattooed all over. Not his face or anything, but I think he had more ink showing than his original skin tone. And sometimes he had hair, and then he'd shave his head for the hell of it. Well, turns out that under the hair he had tats as well (which had to HURT, dang!).

Which I found out one day when I sat behind him at church right after he shaved his head -- and saw the tattoo on the back of his head that said "FUCK DISCO."

I am not making this up.

Kathy, that's great! How does the doctor think you're doing, other-health-wise? Are you healing up okay? How do you feel?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The wedding is at some mansion down there. When I priceline hotels in that neighbourhood they're pretty pricey, but I haven't stayed in a hotel in NY on my own dime in forever, so I don't remember how much it costs. How far away is reasonable, and what price range should I set my expectations on?

I think you're probably better off staying on the East side and going downtown, as opposed to cross-town, so maybe as far down as the general Gramercy area? (Cabs and public transit are both faster and easier just going up and down, I believe.) But you might end up paying a couple of hundred dollars anyway. I'm pretty sure I put my parents in a 2.5 star hotel that turned out to be perfectly nice, if that's a concern. It was a Courtyard Marriott or something, and the room was no smaller than the one they had paid bank for at the Grant Hyatt.

The Marriott Courtyard on the UES is about $250/night.

This looks interesting, too.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I got TJ's frozen chocolate croissants to try for Christmas morning. Apparently you let them rise overnight, so I have high hopes.

I was going to ask how they turned out, but it looks like they have been vouched for! I see them all the time and wonder if they are really awesome, and now I want to give them a try for reals.
