My mom is going through estate hell. The buyers of her mom's house keep going "and one more thing" even after they've signed contracts. This is a very expensive luxury home in La Jolla (that $ was my mom's parents, not the rest of the family) and they're getting a total deal on it already because my mom's siblings want to unload quick because of stress. And they keep getting one thing and another thing and another thing. They were offered the chance to make an offer on any of the furniture 3 x. And now they're pissed that the house no longer has furniture in it. They were banking on getting it for free. They're suing their own realtor. Etc. etc. Total hell. They were trouble that was relatively easy to spot. My mom would have walked away from their offer but her siblings didn't want to. So now they're embroiled with complete hell buyers.
Sorry for the ER visit, Perkins. I hope the anti-biotics kick that infection.

My dad's office is throwing a big retirement party for him (big as in gov't officials probably flying in from DC to attend). They specifically scheduled it for a date that I could attend. Since office life is foreign to me I don't know what to expect. Should I dress relatively business-like? Should I bring a gift?
