Anya: It's lovely! I wish it was mine! Oh like you weren't all thinking the same thing. Giles: I'm fairly certain I wasn't.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

David, is your song about pi Lucy Kaplansky's father's song? I love that.

Nope, and not Kate Bush's Pi song either. It's my friend Gary's song about Pi, and Avogadro's number and Planck's constant and the speed of light and all of his favorite awesome numbers in physics and mathematics.

Hey, when is do your onerous task time? Because I just knocked out three emails I'd been putting off, and I think it was partially due to the motivational influence of you folks.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Oh, happy news about Pi baby!

Congratulations to Nilly & Khusband! What a lucky little boy to have such quality parents.

I skipped thousands of posts to verify that the Press post meant what it looked like. Awesomecakes!

Well done!

We decided to use a random date generator which would pick a weekday on a date between two weeks and a month from the previous Onerous Task Day.

So our next one is coming up next week.

Onerous Task Day: Wednesday, December 8th.

Punishingly Intricate

Onerous Task Day: Wednesday, December 8th.

I am hoping that my onerous task for that day will be getting out of bed and lying on the beach!!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Steam-powered record player

It still uses electricity to amplify the sound. And to control the speed of the steam engine.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Got lucky in that my brother was in the mood to help me get my bike to the shop up in Pasadena. The flat seems to have been from the Mr. Tuffy liner. That's our best guess, anyway. The hole was *right* where the tube had a seam. Bike shop suggested that if I really wanted to avoid flats I should upgrade to a Schwalbe Marathon. The cost to do that is about 12 times what merely fixing the flat would be. OTOH, constantly having to hassle with punctures or having a flat happen while I'm in the middle of nowhere would be disastrous for me so I'm ponying up. At least I can do it now. I think if I were to wait on it, putting it off for a time where I may finally be living by myself again, I might not have room in the budget. So better to do it now.

ETA: It's a good thing I bought an LA County Bike Coalition membership. They have an LACBC discount at this shop and this is a prime example of when that comes in handy. The discount is 10% off parts.

It's another gorgeous day. Purple mountain majesties - we haz them.
