Allyson, I'm so very sorry. If it helps with perspective, I've done the same thing four times, taken in a stray. Twice it's ended in unexpected tragedy, twice it's ended in a long, loving relationship.
In Oliver's case, everyone else is so right. He was warm, he was fed, he was safe from sudden fearful pain and death, and he was even loved enough to be named. He didn't starve, cold and alone, and he wasn't in pain. You did your very very best for him, and it's nobody's fault it just wasn't to be this time. Don't let it steel you against future need, though. Oliver wouldn't want that.
Peace and comfort to you.
Bad news: Safari finally got around to killing the account I had as a former employee of a partner of theirs.
Good news: One of my former co-workers is willing to comp me 2 of the books I need.
I just made Grace's Day-After-Thanksgiving blend. It makes me smile to know she's getting what we eat: [link]
So sorry, Allyson, but I'll agree with the rest - he was lucky to have you as a person.
Allyson you totally did the right thing for him. If there more to be done you would have done, but you did everything that could be done.
I am so sorry, Allyson. Oliver was so lucky to have you.
You know, Allyson, if I were the God of Cats and I looked down and saw Oliver and knew he was dying on a cold winter night in Los Angeles, you're the person I'd send him to so that his last days were warm and loved and tended to.
