My boss sent a guideline out for comments. He has now sent all the various comments to me without any directive in how to synthesize them all. Of the probably 10 pages of comments I have, I'd say 10% are about the substance of the guideline, the rest are all wordsmithing.
One commenter says it needs some "grammer" fixes, and tells me it needs to be more concise, while also suggesting we add several other points to it.
I have no doubt that she's going to run, but I am clinging to the hope that there are enough smart people left in America to not let her get elected.
Re: Palin - at the moment I'm more worried about whether Republicans will refuse to raise the debt ceiling, which could push the US into default. Also, will they refuse to ratify the START treaty with Russia. Both of these are things Republicans have always supported, but they may fuck things up for everyone just to make Obama look bad.
Ha! I'm not crazy!
Well, I'm sure I'm crazy in other ways....
We have a president, perhaps for the first time since the founding of our republic, who expresses his belief that America is not the greatest earthly force for good the world has ever known
Oh noes, a leader who doesn't use hyperbole. WHAT WILL WE DO.
OK, she's complaining that Obama doesn't accept American exceptionalism. When in fact he does.
Frankly, I hate the idea of American exceptionalism. So many people think, "Well, if
we
do stuff like torture people, it's OK because we're good."
Oh noes, a leader who doesn't use hyperbole. WHAT WILL WE DO.
SOMEONE SOUND THE ALARM.
Seriously, though, I so enjoy Obama's lack of hyperbole. The whole image of America as the be all-end all saviour of the free world has always driven me crazy. The idea that we somehow MUST be the greatest nation on earth has always irked me. Why can't we just strive for OUR best, instead of THE best?
"If Democrats are driving the country toward socialism at a hundred miles per hour, while the Republicans are driving at only fifty
...what time do they meet in St Louis? No wait, wrong math question.
"We have a president, perhaps for the first time since the founding of our republic, who expresses his belief that America is not the greatest earthly force for good the world has ever known,"
Gotta love that "perhaps" - very nice get-out-of-actual-researching-facts-free weasel word!
