Because books.

Dana, does anyone like "Amazing Grace"?

There's also Good Night and Good Morning.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Then I got nothing. Turns out most of my adult funerary experience involves New Orleans and the second line. BFF was surprised to see pictures from my last one. I'm like! Dude! The band! The sister on drums! Confetti! It's a parade!

Should do that for me, even though I probably won't kick it in the Big Easy. I'll appropriate in death.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Maybe "I'll Fly Away"? (I've already instructed Hec that if he outlives me, he must make sure that the Alison Krauss/Gillian Welch version from O Brother, Where Art Thou? must be played at my funeral.)

I also kind of like "All People That On Earth Do Dwell", which has the same tune as "Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow" but prettier words.

And Greg Brown's "Night" and "On Another's Sorrow," from his version of William Blake's Songs of Innocence and of Experience are achingly beautiful.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Abide With Me? The choir sang Let It Be at my niece's funeral and it was beautiful and perfect.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Amazing Grace is on the list already.

I really like "How Lovely Are the Messengers" and kind of hope I can convince my mother to let it be played as an instrumental.

Did I mention I'm singing?

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

My mother wants "In the Garden" and "There is a Balm in Gilead." She has informed me sternly that if "Nearer My God to Thee" is played, she will haunt me.

I want my friends to get drunk and sing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

We are short two hymns and/or songs for my grandfather's funeral and no one can decide what to use.

At my mom's memorial, we used "Ah, leave me not to pine" from The Pirates of Penzance. And something from Bach that I'm not remembering right now.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

It's not specifically funereal, but I've always thought Pat Benatar's "One Love" had an uplifting message and would sound beautiful sung as a choral number.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

My sister played Ashokan Farewell at my mom's.

I want my friends to get drunk and sing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."

I like that idea.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.
