-t, I agree. Theoretically it all depends on what else they would be doing. During the retreat, the caretakers, not the retreatants, will be providing food and everything else, or at least that's how I understand it.
I don't know. I am much like Liese. A spiritual practice that is so long separate from the world seems like a cop out of some sort. Sure Teresa of Avila was an important mystic, but did she do more good or live her faith more than Mother Theresa? I guess this is why the Franciscans have always been more interesting than the Benedictines to me.

Um, yeah...I think the 2.5 million (ZOMG!!) they are asking to search for "answers to deep questions and problems" could be WAY better spent. That does sound incredibly smug and self-indulgent, esp. since I am agnostic and a teacher.
I am all for questing for answers, but I don't think it will come from sequestering yourself from the world for 3 years with 2.5 million dollars (that amount of money just burns my ass.)
It makes me irritably wish that Buddha thwaps them on the head and says "Get off yer ass and make a difference out there, dudes."
