Congratulations to the class of 1999. You all proved more or less adequate.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Zen your situation reminds me a bit of Toddson's. A longtime work relationship that has soured over time. It feels untenable going forward but the options aren't great.

I do think you should be conscious that the job market is not only soft, it's particularly unkind to people in their 40s and 50s. (At least that's been my experience and I think Theo could validate that.)

And I'm not really sure that you could get a stay-at-home deal with the salary and benefits you currently have.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but do weigh the bird in the hand for its proper worth.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Get out, Zenkitty.

I didn't realize how much better I would feel until after I left.

This is so true for me! I feel like things are OK, or at least fine, but once I've made the decision to leave (any number of situations), I can really see how crappy they are.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Zen, maybe you should do an assessment of your job. Write down everything that you do, and how long it takes you to do it, maybe do this for about a week. Send it to your boss so that she gets some idea of what's going on.

Also, if she is going to tell you get someone else to do something, then she needs to define your supervisory authority, and whether you can ask someone or you can tell them to do what you need done.

not your mom's socks.

In other news, I had a Sox at my house for two hours just now and it was Made of Awesome.

It was, it was! (kind of xposted from Bitches) - thank you so much for inviting me over! I'm jealous of us and I was even there!

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Aw, Zen, that sucks. I hope you see more improvement than you expect.

In other news, I had a Sox at my house for two hours just now and it was Made of Awesome.

That does not suck! Jealous.

Brenda - call or write pizza ordering person and ask if they have ordered enough for all who responded.

Oh yeah, that's not the issue. Most of the same people are involved, but the pizza lunch is at the same time and three floors away from the other meeting I've been charged with leading. I'm already having huge problems getting people to sign on for it (it's a fucking Toastmasters club) and I suspect this means we're pretty much fucked for getting anyone to show besides the very few who've been assigned a role.
