It's because you didn't have a strong father figure isn't it?

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

So a little before 4:00, one of the secretaries asked why I was still there, since all of them had been told everyone could go home at 1:30.

At least I'm home now! And it looks like I may have beaten the UPS guy here, so I won't have to worry about it tomorrow.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

which I cut with cookie cutters I got from Ginger (?)

Yes, I am the cookie cutters.

I made one type of sandwich cookie this year and the dough was miserable. They needed to be thin, but I couldn't get the thin ones from rolling to cookie sheet without their falling to pieces. Those were, of course, everyone's favorites. Maybe I'll try more flour next time.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yay! I love those cutters, Ginger.

Am almost done wrapping, but took a scone break, and I'm not going to lie, mine are better than my mother's. She works the dough too much and often overcooks.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh shit! Yesterday was Onerous Task Day and we forgot.

I observed! I got lots done. I should have come in here and posted about it, but I was busy out doing my Onerous Tasks...

Ha HA! I believe everything is wrapped, and I learned that I have a hip-hop remix of Wham's "Last Christmas." Yeah, I don't know. The other day's discovery was "Me and Mrs. Claus," ala "Me and Mrs. Jones." Good times.

OK, seriously -- Mila Kunis is in a movie with Oscar buzz, and Mena Suvari is guest-starring on basic cable? Who would have predicted that ten years ago?

hip deep in pie

This Xmas is quite the clusterfuck. After supper tonight we discovered that my dad didn't buy anything for my mom. Rather, he did not appoint one of his daughters to buy something for him. He thought I was buying her something, because I had overbought and told my sister I had an extra book that dad could give her. Somehow, this got mistranslated as I was buying her entire present. So, my sister and I were off to the mall, again.

Also, I have wrapped my presents, my parent's presents, and present's for two of my sisters. I have used every box in the house, and almost all the gift tags. I am glad I am organized, because everyone else is slacking this year.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I seem to be paralyzed by the fear that I might have bought more presents for Niece#1 than Niece#2. And not enough presents for Niece#2. Even though all she wants is cash, I can't give her MORE cash than I give Niece#1. The cash and the gifts must balance, else there will be a disturbance in the Force and unruhe in the household.

Can I have that drink yet?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Christmas at our house has been a series of first world problems -- too many cookies, post party depression, forty ungraded tests, three broken laptops, two unusable ipods, one stand mixer gift I actually don't need! (to the tune of...) But I still don't have to go to the inlaws for the holiday so I guess I win.
