I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You guys, it's a Buffista Christmas miracle. I was cranky, but put on a tape from David and an apron from megan, and made scones, which I cut with cookie cutters I got from Ginger (? if not, oops, sorry), and I'm feeling Much Better about everything.

In weight news, I was amused to learn at the doctor yesterday that I am almost exactly the weight I was for years, before I gained some, lost a bunch, and gained back. Yep, I guess this is the size I am.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

I think I read a story like that once.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I love washing all my Justice League shirts together. Now GL, Supes, Bats, and Flash are all hanging up to dry side by side.

Thank you for reminding me that Big Bang Theory is on tonight.

There's a reason I did something like 10 batches of those cookies. And the batch I made here was just a PIA to work with. Dough was crumblier than usual (I'm blaming either smaller egg or warmer kitchen or the chocolate being different) and I couldn't get the edges pinched shut neatly. Ehn.

I would think that you could just put a dollop of the dulce on top, openfaced, and leave it at that, or bake half with dulce and half not and sandwich them after.

Spent the morning playing frisbee badly with my brother and nephews and then accompanying them to a couple stores, one of which was the Bass Company store or something and was kinda awesome. I have to say, the hunting sections of sporting goods stores in Alabama border on insane. And they hustle you at the gun counter, even if you are just walking past. I'm just not used to hearing"Yeah, I want to get my wife a gun for Xmas" as normal store fare.

I am still impressed at the sheer rage and persistence of 3.5 year old tantrums. You'd think the world was ending.

Company coming over soon.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Yay for a very buffista Christmas!

DH is super cranky cakes today. I do feel for him 'tho. He's trying to put out fires at work while the kids and I keep bugging him here. " daddy what are you doing?" "Can I go on Club Penguin?" "Honey can you put the lights up?"

I am dealing with it by giving up, drinking sorrel, and doing my nails.

Amusing anecdote:

If you look up "pleurisy" on Wikipedia, it includes a list of famous people who died from it. Apparently Charlemagne died from pleurisy. So the other night I was reading the list to The Boy, and he asked, "Who was Charlemagne? I know he was famous, but...for what?"

I boggled at him, so he read over my shoulder what Wikipedia said: "Charlemagne, known as the father of Europe for reuniting much of the Roman Empire..."

So fast-forward to tonight. I overhear The Boy on the phone with his brother, and he mentions that I have pleurisy. And they're making chit-chat about it, and Tim says, "Lots of famous people have died from pleurisy! Like Charlemagne...from Europe!"

Charlemagne from Europe. It made me laugh and laugh. Like "My cousin, from Spain!"

Happy holidays! I post to you from Budapest, where it is 130am. But see, I was feeling massively jetlagged today, so I went to bed at dinnertime and my brother went out to a pub quiz I found in the paper. He apparently joined a team of "cute girls" and won, the prize being a weekend driving a Mercedes! But nobody wanted that so try traded it for beer. And he just stumbled in a few minutes ago...and now I'm awake. Doh!

Am entertained reading everyone's Christmas stories, but now I want cookies! Though we've been eating plenty here (and I'm much looking forward to Vienna in a few days!) Tomorrow we head to my brothers place in Brno, where we plan to chill for a couple days while everything is closed, then on to Prague. Whee!

sara, in the second batch, I just cut the dough super thin, baked them then made sandwiches with the caramel. I think I might make some with ganache! or cream cheese icing! NOM NOM NOM.

I have no stocking stuff. I suck. Oh well, everyone will survive.

I did make sausage, lentil and spinach soup using some sofrito which smells delicious!
