I haven't used a fax machine in years. Except for that one time when a client had trouble making a PDF so they sent me a fax.

Unfortunately, fax still exists. As do land lines. And calling.
Although they forgot to mention bicycle messengers. They're still around, but the advent of PDFs has really put a dent into their business.

Yummm. Lunch ended up being from the taco salad bar, where I got the chicken filling and put a little cheese sauce on top, for $1.65. Nice and spicy, and just the right texture and serving size!

As of today, it's been 72 years* since humans figured out that some Coelacanths—an order previously known only in the fossil record—were still alive and swimming around in our modern oceans. The story of the discovery is a great one, full of serendipity and giant dead fish riding around in the back of taxis. Museum curator Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer, who found the Coelacanth in a pile of "trash" fish hauled in by a trawler, had to fight to get anyone to take her discovery seriously. Once the big shots started paying attention, though, they quickly recognized the Coelacanth as a new and fascinating species.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
I haven't used a fax machine in a couple months, but they were an integral part of my timesheet routine, for instance. The faxes at our office get a reasonably regular workout.
And I was requested to send a fax pretty often when I was jobless, for signed releases. There's little agreement about email image formats.
eta: And, of course, my pharmacy faxes all the time. It's how they get their prescription refill authorisations. ALL the time.
And I want to know how that person avoids catalogs. I'd really like to phase out mine.
I like that someone on the OB post is recommending getting pregnant to avoid needing them. I much rather that to the endless Diva Cup recommendations you get on Jezebel. Been there, tried that, want my OBs.
