Natter 67: Overriding Vetoes
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, nail polish, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I am so very very tired. Like unbelievably. And stupidly. I think I'm carrying worry about the impending surgery and I've been stressing about insurance and meds and supplies and and and....
In other news, though, I've been reading the Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Holy moley I LOVE it.
Any recs for post-apocalyptic/dystopian novels?
Life As We Knew It, Susan Pfeffer
No Blade of Grass, John Christopher
Damnation Alley, Roger Zelazney
and the classic of the genre, Alas Babylon
Of the post-zombie apocalypse oeuvre:
Feed, Mira Grant
The Forest of Hands and Teeth
Do not read Jupiter's Hammer or World Made By Hand if women who suddenly turn into idiots who must be protected by a man make you throw things.
Oooh, also, Earth Abides, by George Stewart. And A Canticle for Leibowitz.
The Parable series by Octavia Butler. Xenogenesis might slide in there too.
I wanted to see if I was going to be able to shoot during the lunar eclipse. I am all worked up about the eclipse. What time does it start?
When I saw the cameraphone picure (which, I cannot believe that's from a cameraphone through a telescope!), I was going to make sure you knew about the eclipse, but of course you do. So -- there is no way I'm getting up at 2:30 a.m. (Eastern time) to see it, so please take lots of pictures!
The Forest of Hands and Teeth
This one is really good, but creepy. It has a sequel(ish), called The Dead-Tossed Waves, which I didn't think was quite as good, but I'm still glad I read.
Yeah, I`m going to wiped because I`ll be up late both that night and the next. But what`s winter break for if not for staying up late?
And thanks for that link, -t, that`s great info.
MY apartment manager just have me back my December rent and told me I had to bring it in myself ASAP. I think I'm working from home tomorrow. Plus I have to pick my sister's stuff up from the post office.
LA is absurdly wet and grey. I'm calling it El Nino weather, I don't care what they say.
Xmas shopping is almost done, but the house is still a wreck. 4 days until my sister arrives, which gives me 4 days to clean it up and make it festive-looking.
I have been on a vague endorphin rush since my stretch class at 10 am today. Is that normal?

Good call, good call. This is why I avoid Heinlen.
Thanks for the recs! My mama sent me a kindle and I've been buying many books.
I got Dracula and The Secret Garden for free. I haven't read them in yonks, and have no idea where they have gone.
Allyson! I should call you sometime this week! But not tonight or Monday night. After that is golden. If I don't start a game of phone-tag, harass me via email until I do. I keep remembering that I have a funny thing to tell you and then I forget it for months and then I remember "Shit, I should call Allyson and tell her the funny thing."
Also I am distributing copies of Sam for Xmas so yay. Children of my acquaintance who do not love it will be disowned.
On which note I need to sleep because I have to be in DC early tomorrow, bleh.
