Sparky -- also First Crush, which is on Ellis, and is great California-style, with an awesome wine list. Pricy, but if they're looking for California Cuisine you could do worse. I have been there 4 or 5 times and always had a great meal.

There's an issue that excessive trading generates fees and other costs. Return is uncertain, transaction costs are guaranteed.
Apparently for some reason, "Stop fiddling with it!" is a harder message to get across to male investors.

If they want to venture a bit further into the Tenderloin, I'd try Lahore Karahi on O'Farrell or Osha Thai on Geary.
I've been recommended Lahore Karahi (...I think by you). I second Osha Thai. I've eaten there (at various locations) possibly more than any other restaurant in San Francisco. That's not a taqueria, I mean.
