Morning started with rum cake ( has been known to blow the oven door off some years) and mimosas (from which I abstained.)

I think a fuckload of nothing is getting done in this wing today.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

What's Fruit Sip?

It's -18 degrees here.

Yikes!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It's 23 "feels like 8" here according to my browser widget. Actually not terrible except right outside my office, which is one of those freaky Manhattan wind tunnel streets where the buildings create a constant draft blowing EVEN COLDER AIR off the river and into my face.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Jesse: Craigslist is a strong possibility, but that involves me figuring out how to get photos from my camera into the infernal laptop device, which, it should be easy but I suspect it will involve a lot of hunting for lost cables and swearing, and right now I'm tempted to just drop it off at Goodwill and write it off my taxes. Of course, eventually I have to figure out the photo thing anyway, but the longer the rug stays here, the longer the cats have to destroy it... my stupid problems, let me iterate them. I would be dealing better with all the little annoyances this morning if I were not groggy from broken sleep.

Man, you should'a seen that paragraph before I fixed the typos.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Best blowtorch ever.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Best blowtorch ever.

Weird.

Librarian Warlord

My office was 62 degrees this morning, as were some other parts of the library. It's been like this all week, and the building supervisor seems to be ignoring us. I'm guessing that he's already left for his winter vacation and he turned down the heat before leaving.

It's time for Slate's Explainer column to answer a question they ignored, so go vote: [link]

I actually like this question: Are all languages equally lip-readable?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Holy crap.

Craigslist is a strong possibility, but that involves me figuring out how to get photos from my camera into the infernal laptop device, which, it should be easy but I suspect it will involve a lot of hunting for lost cables and swearing, and right now I'm tempted to just drop it off at Goodwill and write it off my taxes

The upside of Craigslist is, you can make the other people deal with transportation. But I feel you on the effort. I still have an extra dresser in my not-that-big apartment, which is slowly filling back up again.
