What's "Christmas chauvinism"?
It is... something I think I just made up? Just my way of expressing my feelings about the tyranny of the Christmas culture. The lack of empathy or understanding of other cultures that don't celebrate Christmas, the thinking that not celebrating Christmas is an affront to the sanctity of childhood, humanity, and the american way.
But then I am a Scrooge, so feel free to disregard...
Edit:
I think it's where everyone is bludgeoned with the music, decorations and general celebrating, etc. regardless of whether they want to participate or not.
Yes, this!
I wonder when the next Onerous Task day is?
I didn't set one. I wondered whether we should (a) do it before xmas; or (b) after the holidays; or (c) just let the random date selector decide.
What say you, Natterinos?
But then I am a Scrooge, so feel free to disregard...
You don't like Valentine's Day either. I suspect you'd stab Arbor Day in the heart given half a chance.
Let the date selector decide? No need to procrastinate on selecting a date, since people don't have to task if they don't want to.
I wonder how much of that ignorance can be tied to Christmas being so secularized over the years
I think that's primarily it.
And that it's primarily a christian country. I think (and could be wrong) that a lot of people who are sort of vaguely christian think Jews are just some sort of rogue sect of christianity, like mormons or something.
I love Arbor Day!
I do not like: Christmas, Valentine's, New Years Eve, St. Patrick's Day.
I do like: Arbor Day, Cinco de Mayo, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July.
Unless they are invisible ones in the box, right?
But if they're invisible on the box long enough, they become non-strangers. It works out well.
Onerous task day before Christmas, for sure.
WHAT ABOUT HALLOWEEN?
Ooh, that's a tough one. I used to be neutral to negative on it, but now that I don't live in Salem anymore I am more neutral with the possibility of positivity in the future.
I suck at costume creativity so I tend to feel like a dumbass around halloween.
Stay tuned for my judgement on Mardi Gras.
