'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I'd complain about it raining Cats & Dogs here, but then I remember that it could be snow instead.

Now tagless for your comfort.

We were going to go roller skating with Santa today but I'm not taking the kids out in this cold--it's still blowing and drifting and some of the secondary roads still need clearing.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Our snow is falling fast and isn't supposed to stop until 11:00 tonight. Maybe a snow day tomorrow?

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

I am, sadly, the person who straightens the hand towels in the bathroom and the stuff in the fridge, even. Roll your eyes all you want, megan. I certainly do!

You do realize that half the people on the board are now laughing hysterically at the idea that I might somehow claim not do those things.

I roll my eyes at my sister's attempts at WASPiness more than anything, with her perfectly coordinated tree untainted by the kids' things.

I totally get the lack of appreciation. Worse than taken for granted is rejection! Last weekend I made latkes, burned my hand, and neither kid would eat them. I guess you've just got to do stuff for yourself sometimes. And then yesterday Casper was telling her friend, "We had latkes last week!" And internally I'm all, "Now you're excited about this? You had one bite!"

Flea, I'm sure one day she'll wax nostalgic about how you used to make latkes every holiday season.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I swear someone told me it was supposed to be 80° here today.

I did end up getting my meds not too long after I posted. Getting out of the bed and starting to wander around sped things up, as they are wont to.

Awesome nurse continued to be awesome. She was the one that got me in and out of the ER a couple months ago so I could make a work conference call--and she remembered that and asked how the software release went. She's one of those people asks "How are you doing?" and can make it sond like a sincere question, not like a nicety from someone you've only met once before. So I was honest, and she was sympathetic, but not clucking.

I've only ever decorated one tree while living on my own. I'd do it again, mostly silver style. Victorian tinsel predominated, with three sentimental baubles (Scottie Pippen, Wolverine, gift from Kat).

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Another flying lesson canceled. Oh, well. It's gray and rainy and I don't particularly want to ramble too far today.

Yesterday I picked up some of those candles that have the LED lights implanted, put some red and gold ribbon around them, and set them in the windows. I think I like them better than the old, incandescent fake candles, and if I forget and leave them on all night it's less of a fire hazard or power drain. And I quite like the effect.

As I live by myself, I've been able to decide what level of decorating and hospitality works best for me. I won't be hosting any big parties this season. But I have a tree up and decorated, stuff in windows, and some lights strung up under the bar that separates the kitchen area from the living room. It looks colorful and warm when it's dark.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I really don't understand why I'm so tired today, and am scared for this week, with stuff after work every night but Tuesday.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I'm not decorating (I usually don't), but I've been baking up a storm, and the house smells lovely. I'm also enjoying Annie Lennox's new Christmas album very much.
