flea, because even if you've gotten your vaccines, you may not have had enough reaction to fight off the disease. Not everyone responds perfectly to all vaccinations--it's one of the things they do in the initial clinical trials, take blood samples after injections to see how people respond, to decide dosages. And "adjuvants", which irritate your immune system to cause a bigger response, are one of the things that people often worry about when worrying about what the vaccinations are doing.

information libertarian

Yeah, my kids are 4 and 7 so they are full up on everything. Well, except HPV, and that's a whole different kinda playdate.

Edit, good point, meara.

Bwahahah! OK, this totally made me giggle out loud.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

no idea on weekend plans. I am going to try to cook some more, going to try to get mac to read along with an audio book, going to try and knit, going to try and get two storage tubs and a file cabinet out of the front living room. I may not get any of that done.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Do you remember the Hamster Dance from 1997? It’s back again. Katie the hamster is dancing on the computer!

Yeah. I just stole and shared that complete with a Sheldonesque "You're welcome."

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Ooh, yeah, I have some knitting to do. I made good progress during the Colts game last night. I'd like to finish the side two of my (what turns out to totally be Raiders colors, oops) first-ever sweater. Then onto sleeves.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

This weekend we're throwing a little holiday shindig on Sunday night, so mostly we'll be cleaning and baking and preparing for that. Maybe finally watching ep 3 of Sherlock. Oh, and reading! And buying Christmas presents and plane tickets, and rehearsing for my choir's concert next week, and backing up my computer, and figuring out why iTunes won't sync with my iPod any longer...

Assuming one's own child is vaccinated and there are no family members who have related health issues or are infants, I'd be more comfortable having playdates with non-vaccinators

I'd question leaving my child in the care of someone who is proud of never having brought their kid in for a check up. Not my kind of common sense.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I gather there is a big push to re-vaccinate adults in contact with infants in CA for pertussis.

When I started teaching, my doc re-vaccinated me for it. Hanging out with germy kids all day long and everything.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

What meara said, and also I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to remain civil to the other parents for more than about 5 minutes once the subject came up. So it wouldn't be much of a playdate anyway. (There's also the fact that committed anti-vaxxers tend to believe in a lot of other pseudoscientific crap that I wouldn't want my kids exposed to.)
