Our wings are not tired

Okay, that's a pain chart that actually makes sense.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I like how 1 a.m. and a documentary about Cleopatra where one of the experts is speaking maybe German makes me think I understand maybe German. I keep forgetting to read but I swears I am still following the narrative. Might be time to back away from the History International channel.

And, um, go to sleep. Need to find tired.

I crawled in bed at 10, took my night meds. At 11 I took some pain meds to counter a headache. At 12:30, when I still wasn't asleep I came out to the living room to watch a bit of tv. Ended up doing that, making one ornament and started another. It is almost 2:30 and I'm still wide awake.

Do. Not. Want.

I've only had the ER once for the kids, when Casper broke her thumb last year, but I was at work and didn't actually deal with any of it myself. I've been admitted through the ER to a hospital twice, but in both cases I was having a baby and the front door of the hospital was closed, it being before 8am; the ER was more of a transient location. I don't think I've ever been to the ER for an injury, but then growing up my father was a doctor and my mother a nurse so we took care of plenty of things at home.

Talking to other parents I realize how lucky I am in that my kids are rarely sick. We basically barely know their doctor, because we've never had to see him for anything other than routine vaccination appointments.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I went to the ER once, but only because I didn't realize the walk-in clinic was the next door over. I guess it was just as well, because I saw a good doctor fairly quickly (as opposed to later experiences in the clinic), but it was just for vertigo.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

This morning it is cold enough that I expect to be able to feel individual nose hairs freezing when I walk to my temporary job.

Since K was born, both the DH and I have needed a trip to the ER, and, of course the dog just went on Sunday night. K, however, hasn't needed to go, thank goodness.

Trust my rage

Ellie has been hospitalized twice, which was awful. (abscessed tooth and RSV/salmonella). Frisco went once for a broken arm and once for an ear infection that I didn't want to wait until orningmfor. I've only been for my broken arm in 5th grade.

As sick as Grace is, she goes into the ER less than you'd imagine (KNOCK ON WOOD). When she was at TK and they were concerned about her, they would try to transfer her directly into an ICU because then they could control WHICH hospital she went to.

If you have to call 911, they take you to nearest hospital, which for her then would be Pacifica, which did I mention worst ER ever. Certainly not prepared for pediatric patients on a vent.

She hasn't been admitted into a hospital in over 18 months (AGAIN KNOCK ON WOOD), but she will be admitted in two weeks for surgery.

My favorite hospital for her, at this point, would probably still be UCLA Westwood because the attending staff at the PICU know her already. But I also like Huntington quite a lot. In terms of Children's Hospitals, I still spit on CHLA, but CHOC was nice, plus near the Ducks and Disneyland.

Last month, she saw a new doctor who wanted all her hospitalizations. Man that was hard. I think it goes, Huntington, CHLA, UCLA, Pacifca, Cedars-Sinai, UCLA, (Maybe UCLA again?), Huntington, CHOC, UCLA

Between being an absolute klutz in High School and crazy asthma in my late teens, the local ER knew me by name.

For all the medical stuff my kids went through in their early years, I can only think of one ER visit for Kelly. She hurt herself at a Parks and Rec summer camp. Nothing like getting a call that "your child has fallen from a play structure and is bleeding from the head. We have called 911, meet us at the hospital." Turned out she hadn't actually fallen but had run into a sharp corner and had a small gash in her forehead. Everyone within a 1 mile radius knew she was getting stitches. Poor punkin.
