I'm refraining from posting a feminist diatribe on safety and our hood on my neighborhood board. Needs to be done, but not when I'm all ragey.
Some asshole wrote " Next time look around before you get out of your car. Be thankful that nothing actually happened. It was a positive experience to make you more aware." Uh, yeah. Women do that ALL THE FUCKING TIME. She does that ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Dear god, it is part of her job. It is not a positive experience, you ass! (Neighbor got nearly mugged.) Fuck that. Tell your fucking wife after she's been threatened that her avoiding assault/rape/murder is a "positive experience" and see how well that goes over. Fucktard.
RAAAAGE.
Well placed rage, sara.
I have been productive tonight. Repaired a set of shelves, sewed patches on CJ's gi, shifted around the DVD, VHS, and PS3, and watched 6 episodes of SPN. I have plotted out some furniture moves (will do that over the weekend).
I really should be going to sleep, but I'm wired. Grrrrrr.
Hec,I'm not a sports person but I actually get that. HAHAHAHA!
sarameg, I'm so with you. I get so frickin' tired of trying to educate the more clueless of the male gender about what women go through.
Allyson, I am echoing the Children's Book World rec. I love that store, we shop there regularly. And they do lots of readings.
Cody's co-worker is married to the owner.
msbelle's idea about tying in with zoos is a good one.
The Science Center downtown is going to be putting in a bat exhibit with about 30 bats living there (in the Ecoscience section). Not sure when it'll be up, however. Probably not in time.
In the Bay Area I'd have suggestions but I only recently moved back here so I don't know any indie general bookstores other than Vroman's.
Poking my head for a minute before leaving for Yom Kippur (the day before the actual holiday - especially when remembering how the Jewish day starts from sunset on the day before), because, according to the Buffista Calendar, today is one of those lovely double Buffista events, and probably the most special of all those possible doubles: it's both Perkins' birthday, as well as the the official birthday of this very own Phoenix Board.
Happy birthday, Perkins! With lots of wishes for a great day and a wonderful year!
Happy birthday, Phoenix! May your posts be just as lovely as they've been in the last (goodness, how can it be that long?) 8 years!
Also, since obviously my computer access will be limited-to-nonexistent in the coming few days, I'll post already that tomorrow, the 18th, will be erikaj's birthday, and Sunday, the 19th, will be another lovely double Buffista event, with both lori's birthday as well as PMM and her DH's anniversary.
Lots of early wishes to all! Short Fridays and good weekends all around, with or without Meaningful Religious Holidays.
