Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, I'm just annoyed on principle. Which I'm pretty sure I caught from my mother. Oh well.

Because books.

That's why there are professionals! And it's not last-minute.

I can't see missing a wedding for it, so I'm with you. There are plenty of reputable places to board the cat for the night, and her vet should be able to recommend one.

At least, not a wedding I wanted to go to.

Jesse, that's kinda crazy. That's boarding time. Or a real flexible petsitter with gloves if the cat is like Devi. Also? It's not ideal, and it depends on the cat, but one shot missed is not the end of the world. I've occasionally forgotten in the mornings (thinking I've done it as part of my autopilot morning, but then discover an unused syringe when I get home and more pee in the box than usual.)

I am spoiled in that Mister Kitty LOVES people, I have a good professional sitter (who I still need to pay from the wedding, ack!)and I now have neighbors and nearby friends who can pull duty when needed. But still.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Salmon frittata for dinner tonight! It's really good. I didn't even know what a frittata was, and now I r eating one.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I had a cousin miss our grandfather's funeral because she'd already booked a vacation on a cruise ship down off the Keys.

Some people are just shitty.

I can sorta get planned vacations. I mean, I would try not to, but...I want to go back up to see my aunt, but haven't because of work and other things I've committed to, but COULD blow off with repercussions. Cause she could be dead tomorrow. But have I ? Uh, nope.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

We had family (well, one person) decide not to come from Ottawa to Montreal for my sister's final recital for her violin degree because other family (who she is v. close to) were coming from Toronto - where they had THE SARS.

Now pretty much any time one of us declines an invitation my sister and I are all "is it because of THE SARS???"

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I witnessed the weirdest argument in Coffee Bean.

The woman in front of me went in to ask to use the washroom, and they told her that it was only for customers. Instead of a) leaving politely or b) buying something, she throws a fit at the barista. Tells him "How do you know I wouldn't have been a customer?" He's looking at her blankly, and then she goes off into this racist, anti-Latino rant about how wetbacks are the worst when they get a little power and how he should go back to his own country, and if she'd asked the other barista he'd have let her use the restroom. And then she starts singing to him in Spanish.

Really weird thing is, she's not white, and I swore up and down her accent was Spanish. The baristas were completely stunned, and "other" barista, who's also Latino, was very clear that he wouldn't let her use the washroom either, but she yells all the way out of the cafe.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Or, if the cat is twitchy enough, it can be stressful to catch and throw in a carrier and drive over.

Kittenish HATES it. In her more fragile states, I've had to weigh how important a trip is versus how much stress it puts on her heart. Granted, she also HATES getting medicated daily, but that is what has kept her alive.

So, for me, sometimes not making a trip is really due to the cat and sometimes it's just a convenient excuse.

I love shit like that. Just for the story.

Now pretty much any time one of us declines an invitation my sister and I are all "is it because of THE SARS???"

That is brilliant.
