Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

kd looked like she'd borrowed David Byrne's giant suit!

I kept thinking she was Kyle McLaughlin.

Canadians, sorry about your cauldron, eh.

Yuu guys are missing Wayne Gretzky being driven in the back of a pick-up to the site of the outdoor flame being followed by crowds of drunken, screaming people.

Awwwww, that kinda makes the whole thing ok.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Whoa, the whale on the floor effect was impressive.

Society of Spectacle, meet Vancouver.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Huh. I couldn't help but make the Buffy connections when they went from Donald Sutherland to Sarah McLachlan.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

(Still on West Coast delay.)

The punk rock fiddling tap dancing thing is just so very very Emma Bull. Oh those Bordertown stories - I never thought your aesthetic would turn up as an Olympic opening ceremony.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Slam poetry dude reminds me of my former housemate.

At least for once they are not talking or translating over the French.

ETA: Note to NBC, if we have to suffer tape delay, can't you at least edit so it doesn't run late? Thnx.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

I don't get it. i'm watching the re-showing of the opening ceremonies that started around 3am. I know it wasn't broadcast live to begin with, yet after every commercial break they have to "catch up" with "the countries we missed". Um, really? All the cameramen took a break? At the same time? Those short quilted skirts look cold.

eta: Dear Canada: thank you for Sarah McLachlan. Really.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

I'm seeing a lot of fake snow around the dancers' feet. *squirm* someone please tell me that those professional dancers are performing on a smooth, solid surface with no loose debris on which to slip? Please? *twitch*

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I only caught about 90 seconds of the opening ceremonies, on my way to bed, but I wouldn't be surprised if I enjoyed them more vicariously here. I'm running around with Boskone, the local SFF convention this weekend, so I'm not going to catch much anyway...

hip deep in pie

Which makes Kiefer the Nephew of universal health care!

Grandson.

His mother is a great advocate of her father's legacy, and she and Keifer have done cmapaigns and speeches to support universal health care when there's been talk of moving to a two-level system.
