Looks like she was a biology professor.
A neuroscientist, even.

Holy crap.
I just did a long ass paper on legal issues surrounding the denial of tenure when gender discrimination is involved/suspected. It happens so often, and there's so little that can be done to appeal it. Ugh. I can understand maybe wanting to go postal due to rage and helplessness, but how horrible to have it actually happen.
Guns, man.
Well, I wouldn't assume it was gender discrimination if you have pretty good evidence that she's unstable.
Oh, sure, bon- I was just clumsily thinking out loud, connecting it to the research I'd done. (eta: I mean, it was just my first emotional reaction)
Is the extended civics lesson on Canada on NBC really necessary?
The lesson did not mention universal health care or that gays can marry and we haven't all turned gay.
It did seem rather like an elementary school lesson on "Our Neighbor to the North."
I'm guessing if she had been wildly unstable, it wouldn't have gotten to that meeting, but I don't know how academia works -- if you're on the tenure track, do you automatically stay there?
