my monthly bill is $13-14 for gas & electric
Hm, looks like my bill used to be around $30ish a month, but it's jumped to $50 recently. Huh. I think that's just the winter increase, though, from using the heater. Last year around this time I had a $70 bill.
We recently replaced the windows with much better ones so I'll be curious to see how summer goes. We've gotten up to $300 during a hot summer month. For quite awhile my wife kept wanting to add insulation, and I had to keep pointing out that there's nothing to add insulation too. We'd have to rebuild the house with 2x6 exterior studs instead of 2x4.
T-shirt war! This is a neat stop-motion video.
Well, obviously any of our findings are anecdotal, but when the Enron bullshit was happening, with its completely unnecessary "brownouts", my PG&E bill went from around $100 (3 bed, 2 bath house where heat was sparingly used) to $350 in one month.
Bear in mind I live in Missouri where we can have 100+ degree days with murderous humidity and still have below zero stretches in the winter. This also explains why the roads suck.
I am not looking forward to the jump in utilities I will face with double the square footage and having to my own water and heat for the first time ever. eep.

The people from the TV show just left. There were four production people and the three hosts. They talked to us, toured the house, and then we went in the other room while they had a creative meeting I think we did well--they gave us paperwork and a couple of them said "see you soon" when they left.
One nice thing--one of them told me that the PA who edited the interview tape actually put a chyron on he bottom at the end of the tape. It said "I love these guys" and they said she never does that.
(Given that my monthly bill is $13-14 for gas & electric).
That's crazy. My usage isn't too far off of that, but with all the delivery charges I don't think I've seen either dip below $30-$40 bucks.

That's the thing, since gas and electric were separate companies in NYC, just to have a gas stove meant you had a $15 bill on top of electric. Which is worth it to have a gas stove, IMO.
But it certainly explains why everyone looked at me like a crazy person when I was worried about what utilities would add to the cost of living in my own place here.

Nah, that's not why we looked at you like you were a crazy person.
