Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Would you all call an Ombuds office with the info? If you could do it anon?

Yeah, I think I would.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

It seems clear that a handful of people are taking steps on company time to start their own company.

Welllllll, I spent about 1/4 of my time during my last few months at my previous job hunting for, and eventually landing, my current job. With my manager's approval. Hell, we traded job leads, as our skill sets didn't have us in competition. Then again, the director whose organization included my previous job was doing his level best to eliminate it, so I felt it was self-preservation.

Is your office screwing people over in a dramatic fashion, msbelle? If so, I'd let it ride.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

msbelle, I think I would. I think creating something at work is very different from just using work resources.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Cat loves turtle

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

My brother and I are very different looking but our mannerisms and speech patterns are so ridic similar that most people comment on how alike we are when they meet us.

I saw your brother on the train this morning. I think you have very similar smiles.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

It would be really funny if someone here had written that....

Wouldn't it?

Um, read back about ten entries in the Fan Fiction II topic for more on this.

Coding and Sleeping

When I was in high school and college my mother would sometimes be mistaken for my sister, or worse, my date.

My ancestors were French, English, Swedish, and Czech, but mostly Czech and I probably look somewhat Czech-ish.

Heh. A friend of mine has a brother who's about 12 years younger than her. When she was a teenager out with her brother, people would give her dirty looks as they thought he was her son.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Calli - I don't think they are screwing people. Bad management? yes. Low to no bonuses? yes. Job insecurity? some.

On the other hand, people in sensitive positions are spending 30-50% of their time on building a different company, and are using company paid resources for some of the work.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

and what a hassle it must have been in his career being named Adolf.

One of my parents' friends, who was a German immigrant, had his name legally changed from Adolph Rudolph to Rudolph Adolph (called Rudy) during WWII.

He was in maritime insurance and sold the insurance on the Andrea Doria.
