Low-30s seems pretty good highway MPG for a 4WD SUV to me. I commuted 30 miles from the Springs to Elbert County for seven years in an '84 Toyota Tercel wagon, and I got about 32 MPG in 2WD, and 28 MGP when I had to switch into 4WD.

I'm still earwormed with the "TION" song from the Electric Company.
Are you going to be commuting over Monument Hill?
How big is this "hill?" B/c as much as I love my Darla (Civic Hybrid), she does not enjoy when I take her to Asheville. That one big incline on the way there? I get passed by everyone but 18 wheelers. 3 cylinders, yo.
Well, downtown Colorado Springs is at about 6000', and Monument Hill (about 18 miles north) tops out at about 7400' where I-25 crosses the Palmer Divide on the way to Denver. It's not an extreme slope, it's just that it's high enough and oriented just right (or wrong, depending on your point of view) to trigger and catch rain, ice, and snow.
Yeah, I get about 17mpg in my AWD van. So any improvement is a good thing. And I really really need at least AWD given our dirt roads.
Yeah, the Palmer Divide is very much a border. Storms often stop or start there. We used to live just south of there butnow we are way more south.
I've been walking around the office with a stupid grin on my face this week. I have no idea why. I think my alter ego must be getting laid.
I used to work here. Sigh. I miss it, even though it broke me.
Wow. I love Colorado so much. We live on Cheyenne Mt. Now. It's so beautiful although your view of the mountains is better.
I discovered I can lift myself out of the pool easily without using my legs. I like having strong arms.
Short-eared cat from across the street must be hanging on the porch; Loki is attacking the blinds.
Wind is crazy out there. Pretty much like the blizzard, without the snow. Saw a collapsing awning from the snow finally come down the rest of the way. Heard a crash in the alley, hope it wasn't the rest of Kitmo coming down. ( Other Sarah built an enclosure for her cat on her deck and dubbed it such. It mostly collapsed in the last storm.)
