I don't think tips are required for takeout but I always try to add a few bucks for the delivery driver. Definitely not as much as a sit-down meal. And I'm pretty sure most delivery people are paid higher wages than servers. And they don't have to split tips with bussers and bartenders.
edited to be clearer--I DO tip for take out but only a buck or two--for the person ringing me up and if they make sure I have chopsticks, etc.. Always tip for delivered.

I love Pat Kiernan so much.
If there's a tip jar, I'll leave coin change in it. Otherwise I don't think takeout requires a tip.
I think it's reasonable to add a couple of bucks if they put together a nice bag with napkins and utensils for you.
Isn't that what they're supposed to do, though? I've never considered tipping for take-out. That seems like tipping your McDonald's cashier.
I'll usually do a buck or two for takeout. I don't think it's required though.

Well, sit down servers are supposed to bring you food, but you tip them, dontcha?
I tend to tip at the take out places I go to a lot, like the local sushi restaurants.
I should clarify. For me it depends on the place. If it seems like the person doing the take-out orders is a bartender or wait-staff person, somebody who normally gets tips, then I throw in a buck or two. But I don't do it for a fast food place.
I just had an awesome flashback of my first date with this one guy in college, where he tipped the concession stand at the movie theater. He was a bartender, and nervous. Cute.
